I spent Friday night and all of Saturday commuting to Dorsai Thing, which finally came off after two years of waiting. It was really nice to see everyone who was able to make it.

Heck, we even had a filksing! :)

The Dorsai Irregulars Business Meeting was today, followed by an informative presentation by Dr. Bob on COVID-19. It was good seeing so many different faces.

This evening, Gretchen and I watched "Bumblebee", which for the marginal cost of "free" was not a bad film at all. :)

Things did not go exactly according to plan today, but I'm having a good time. :)

And Debbie Gates is the newest member of the DI.

I was reminded that today is the anniversary of Gordy Dickson's death. This prompted me to post a rather old song that I wrote with some of my friends down at ChUSFA.

And I wish we could still see Gordy wander into a party...

I blame catalana. tarkrai's and scs_11's song, Shai, had been nominated for a Pegasus award for Best Battle Song and I'd learned it to sing it for the Pegasus concert at LACon IV. But she wanted to have someone else sing it at OVFF, because I had The Destroyer nominated in the same category and she (justifiably) wanted to get someone else to sing it.

No problem. Smac could sing it. Except he was in Germany.

No problem. Simmons could sing it. Except he was radioactive and not coming to the con.

Someone was going to have to learn a really long song. But in case no one was available to learn a song that long, daisy_knotwise and I decided it could be lightly abridged if necessary...

Ok, I've now booked airline tickets for daisy_knotwise and me so that we can join the DI contingent at Confluence. It's about time I worked another contract...

Back from Hal Frank's memorial service and shiva at his brother's house. Murray did a tremendous job officiating at the memorial service. Many, many Dorsai Irregulars were there.

In a moment, daisy_knotwise and I will be heading down to the Passovoy's, where the DI wake has already commenced.

daisy_knotwise and I were supposed to get together with Bonnie tonight for dinner and talk WindyCon and DI berets, but that's apparently not happening. So we'll eat the chili we prepared last night for Tuesday instead.

In other news, the graphics package that came with Formula One isn't very far down the Unicode curve, as it turns out. But it will be tomorrow.

Kelly died this morning at 4:45 AM. The reliable Mark Evanier provides a brief obituary.

He was a helluva nice guy.

Pushing to finish the current project at work, so I'm staying more than the average amount of busy. But since I need to wrap this up (in almost every way) before heading out to OVFF, I'd better get to it. (So why am I writing this? Because I'm trying to decide where to put a particular function that I don't think is in the right place quite yet.)

I've seen some of the World Series, despite being at ConClave last weekend. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot for a Cardinal fan to enjoy. But the team is missing its best pitcher, which certainly isn't helping, although some timely hitting would help too. Not running the bases badly would be an additional plus.

ConClave was a good time. The SpaceTime show went quite well. The DI added new members Chris Passovoy and Mark Osier. (And there was much rejoicing.)

But it's time to get back to paying for the good time.
