Blown Away

My strategy for dealing with the snow and rain worked out as I had hoped. I went out early this morning while the temperature was still in the mid-20s and the snowblower made short work of clearing the driveway. I had to clear off my car (still parked in the driveway -- maybe next winter I will get it back in the garage) and move it into the street to expedite the process, but once that was done, things proceeded well. This is good, because it is a *whole* lot colder now.

In activities later in the day, Bill Sutton was good enough to send me the raw tracks from the recording he made of my Chambanacon concert and I did a quick mixdown this afternoon. As a high quality MP3 file, this ended up being 111 MB, which is a lot. :) But it was good to sit down and listen to it with Gretchen before I went to rescue K from the apparently very cold bus that they came back from Theaterfest in Bloomington on this evening.

Theaterfest was apparently a lot of fun. I'm glad.

So maybe it's fair to call this my last Chambanacon song -- not because the song is about Chambanacon in any sense, but because it has rolled out of Jen's songwriting panel at the last Chambanacon. I will say more about that in a subsequent post (a *lot* more about that!), but for now, here are the lyrics to the new song.

I hope you like it!

Here's the song that I wrote for Brenda -- and anyone else who needed it! -- for my concert at the last Chambanacon. I'm glad that Brenda (and Bill and others!) liked it. And it was a lot of fun to perform it (and the rest of the concert as well) with Amy McNally, who is always a delight to work with. Actually, "work" is the wrong word, but it sounds wrong to say that Amy is always a delight to *fun* with. :)

Anyway, lyrics! I should post lyrics. And for those of you who haven't heard this yet, by virtue of not being at the con, it's upbeat and starts off with an Amaj7 chord...

I'm back from the last Chambanacon. It was an honor to be their last music guest and I had a wonderful time with panels and concerts and the open filking and the banquet and seeing friends.

For the first time since 1976, I have no idea what I'll be doing next Thanksgiving weekend.

I guess I'll find out.

There are three items left to go into my bag and then I can haul it out to the car and get on the road to Chambanacon. I'm waiting for one of the items to come up from downstairs, but I may get lucky at any moment. :)

See you there!

(And the missing item just arrived by Child Express, so...)

Progress!

The third load of laundry should be ready to come out of the washer; the fourth load is about to go in.

More importantly, I think I have finished the new song for my concert at Chambanacon next Saturday. Now I just have to assemble the rest of the songs for the concert. I know what *several* of them are going to be. Hang on.

Ok. Now I have a running order! And Amy McNally, who is being good enough to accompany me, has actually heard four of the eight songs. Happily, Amy is really, really good at this (which comes from talent and years of practice), so she is prepared for this sort of tomfoolery.

Let's see, the songs are in E, A, Am, G, E, A, A, A. (Whole lot of A there at the end, but that's A, AMaj7, and Asus2, so...) And Amy has heard the first, fifth, sixth, and eighth songs. (The seventh song is the new one.)

This should be fun!

(Actually, yes. This should be a lot of fun. Playing with Amy always is.)

Chambanacon

Mixed emotions. That's the right phrase.

I wish that this were not the last Chambanacon -- and I understand all of the reasons why! -- but if this is going to be the last Chambanacon, then I am absolutely delighted to be the Music GoH there.

It should be a wonderful weekend. Thanks so much to Brenda for asking me!

And I'm back from Chambanacon, where I had a fine time and got to listen to a lot of good music and catch up with friends. I got to interview my good buddy, Clif, who was the Writer Guest of Honor, taking most of the hour to get around to his writing, because it took Clif most of the forty-some years that I've known him to spend a lot of time writing prose. :) But we covered the field.

I will have an annoying number of things to catch up on now that I'm back, I'm sure, but today was not the day for that. Tomorrow, on the other hand...

Having updated the filk book, I am almost ready to head out for Chambanacon. (Having updated the filk book, I discover that I need to upgrade from a 2 inch binder to a 3 inch binder, so that's been ordered from Amazon and should improve the situation shortly.)

I have a few items left to pack, including CDs that I'm carrying to another dealer, and I need to run by Walgreens and pick up prescriptions that are ready, but I'm really close to getting out the door.

I hope. :)

See some of you there!

I got back late this afternoon from the delayed Chambanacon 50. I had a fine time. It was really good to see people, have a chance to chat, and do some filking in person. (Yes, I have seen people, chatted, and filked at several conventions this year, but I am still clearing my isolation backlog. :) )

And I have a membership and banquet ticket for next year...

Dropped in on a bit of the virtual Chambanacon today, catching the Never-Ending Filk Panel, some bits of concert, and a few hours of the open filk. It was fun, although not nearly as good as actually seeing people in person. But we'll try that next year.

On the other hand, not being there in person was *far* less caloric...
