Having now watched three episodes of the new Hawaii Five-O, I posed the question to [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, "What version of the Constitution are they using in Hawaii?"

Gretchen suggested that it comes from the days of the old monarchy and that the Governor is actually the Queen of Hawaii. This is possible.

Although it's also possible that it's the same version of the Constitution that they used in 24. You never can tell...

But Bill, in the first episode, the Governor told them they had full amnesty for all their action. See, that gives them a free ride to "do whatever it takes".

Yeah, silliness abounds. I've put H50 is my "I'll watch it if its on" list, but not bothering to record it.

The you're saying it's the same version of the Constitution they use in Washington?

The usual TV one where innocent people have all the rights they need, and the guilty have none?

As Kevin already pointed out, it is the standard TV Universe variant where the heroes can get away with all sorts of things that wouldn't pass muster in the real world (or even in some cases the "realer" world)

This does nothing to tell me I was wrong to stop watching after one episode. My taste in crime drama runs much more to the Law and Order shows, where due process actually matters. (For some reason, CSI interests me enough to watch on occasion, but not enough to make it a regular habit.)

On the other hand, of the other new Monday night shows, I'm still interested enough in The Event to keep following it for now (though I want some real answers fairly soon), and I'm very pleased with the way Mike and Molly is developing.

The Constitution? You mean that pesky thing that kept getting in the way of all the good plot lines?
