Exterminate!

With a lot of help from the tech support guys in Denver, the infection on my work PC has been exterminated. A lot of help.

It appears that I managed to acquire a new version of the Tdss rootkit. The article describes a slightly older version. The newer one is no doubt nastier.

But it's cleaned out now. I just have to take care of the collateral damage.

Which is better than rebuilding the whole computer by a long shot.

I'm glad you're free of the virus. Did the guys in Denver give you any way to -stay- free of it? Since you don't really know where it came from?

Oh, I'm pretty sure I know where it came from. I blew past a warning in Google Chrome and got hit by an infected ad server on the New York Daily News site. And my Java install was insufficiently patched.

On my list of mistakes not to make again now...
