Well, we didn't forget a lot of things on the way out of the house. (So far, a book and paper towels. We'll see what else materializes -- or fails to!)

We got out around 6 PM, much later than planned, but that's the way the day was. We met [livejournal.com profile] catalana for a late dinner in CU, then headed on down to Marion, Illinois, arriving a bit after 1 AM.

The leg spent the trip propped up on the center console, which worked pretty well. It's a bit red this morning, but not bad. I'm going to change the dressing shortly and see how it looks.

And I thought my doctor had given me more Cipro, but Walgreen's gave me something else that they're claiming is what he wrote on the prescription pad, so I'm making phone calls.

And what was the stuff they gave you? Cephalexin?

I've never bought into the theory that all we need to do to fix health care is to get everyone onto a single computerized system. But I certainly think it would help.

A single format for insurance cards - that alone would save millions. And while I think that a single, computerized system would be bad, the other end of the single format for cards is the electronic form for insurance information asking for the same information regardless of company - that's what's needed. An example of this is Blue Cross - one of the most commonly seen at the pharmacy. Their patient id numbers begin with XOF followed by a bunch of numbers. You have to "know" NOT to put in the XOF in the patient id field and if it's a Blue cross Medicare part D plan, you want the plan code that begins with ZL, not the BCBSIL. That kind of nonsense goes on for every insurance plan out there. Doctor's offices usually have one or more people whose sole job is to know all these twists and turns and only deal with insurance. At the pharmacy, we have a couple of techs who are the experts at getting insurance to work PLUS a company "help desk". All because insurance companies make it as difficult as possible to submit claims.
