Shoot. I wish singing a song worked with Alex. When he's hysterical our sure fire fix is the Ohio State Marching band I happened to tape before the BCS championship game. It's STILL on the TiVo and he's totally fascinated.

I have versions of that on a couple of Sesame Street tapes; the entire plot of one of them involves Big Bird trying to find "la-laers" so they can put on a show. He has no luck until Ladysmith Black Mombazo rolls in . . .

At that age, The Carpenters' "Close to You" also works.

Thankfully (for me at least) they grow out of the Carpenters pretty quickly.

At this moment both of mine are big fans of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Death Cab for Cutie - and some Paco de Lucia thrown in for grins.
