A Little Frustrated
Jan. 29th, 2007 10:14 pmThanks for all the good wishes. I'm just a little frustrated tonight, because it's another 3-5 weeks of this before they'll think about opening up my knee -- but the good news is that this is something that can be fixed, unlike some of the things that might have happened or some of the problems that my friends have. Then I read that rehab can take another six months after surgery. And it just leaves me feeling a bit useless at the moment.
This will pass. But I'm really annoyed with myself right now.

Date: 2007-01-30 02:41 pm (UTC)The good thing is that these days those things *can* be fixed, even if it will take time.
One warning, from the experience of a friend who had his his ankle shattered awhile back: Take it easy with the moving around. The warning's you've gotten from shoulder/other leg etc... heed them and rest. It's quite easy to mess yourself up in other places by putting too much strain on them in trying to not slow down life much & keepng going. Especially with diagonal, out-of-balance stress. If you're not good at "hearing" your body's signals for "enough, rest now", make concious plans for frequent rest breaks and find ways to make yourself stick to them.
Wishing you complication free, smooth and full recovery! *hugs*

Date: 2007-01-30 05:08 pm (UTC)About the rehab--it may be different for torn ligaments, but when I had knee surgery (torn meniscus) I was getting around much better within a couple of days than I had before the surgery. The rehab took months (but that's rehab to the point where I have to think about it to tell you which knee was injured) but I was walking without crutches within a week. So maybe, hopefully, it isn't as bad as it sounds.
