Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm just a little frustrated tonight, because it's another 3-5 weeks of this before they'll think about opening up my knee -- but the good news is that this is something that can be fixed, unlike some of the things that might have happened or some of the problems that my friends have. Then I read that rehab can take another six months after surgery. And it just leaves me feeling a bit useless at the moment.

This will pass. But I'm really annoyed with myself right now.

Yowtch. Sorry to hear it -- but very glad that it is all fixable. May the time pass quickly.

Oy... that long before they'll do surgery? Bummer! Why so long?

swelling, right... remember, it was a week before they could even put a cast on my ankle.

As for being annoyed with yourself? Don't beat yourself up, hon --- that's your Physical Therapist's job!

More good wishes from these quarters, as well as relief that it's fixable. (Also hopes that you will some day get the knee strong enough to throw 95 with good movement again :-)

Hey, man, ice happens! I know it feels really bad to be incapacitated and unable to do your part with Katie-toting and other important things, but that's how it is with accidents; they can happen any time, any place, to anybody, and there's really nothing one can do about it.

I'm glad it is fixable and will be pulling for you.

Hugs!

Arrrgh. Man, that's gonna make for an interesting summer. I'm so sorry, Bill. But it will work out. (Said the man who partially tore his quad and lived.)

The good thing is that these days those things *can* be fixed, even if it will take time.
One warning, from the experience of a friend who had his his ankle shattered awhile back: Take it easy with the moving around. The warning's you've gotten from shoulder/other leg etc... heed them and rest. It's quite easy to mess yourself up in other places by putting too much strain on them in trying to not slow down life much & keepng going. Especially with diagonal, out-of-balance stress. If you're not good at "hearing" your body's signals for "enough, rest now", make concious plans for frequent rest breaks and find ways to make yourself stick to them.

Wishing you complication free, smooth and full recovery! *hugs*

I echo all the other good wishes and warnings not to overdo it. Time may pass slowly and you will be frustrated as all get-out, but don't strain your other leg, back, etc. (Let Barbaro be a warning!)

The long wait for surgery is frustrating. You know about ICE (ice, compression, elevation) for bringing the swelling down, right?

About the rehab--it may be different for torn ligaments, but when I had knee surgery (torn meniscus) I was getting around much better within a couple of days than I had before the surgery. The rehab took months (but that's rehab to the point where I have to think about it to tell you which knee was injured) but I was walking without crutches within a week. So maybe, hopefully, it isn't as bad as it sounds.

That's certainly a pain. (Both literally and metaphorically.) But don't get too annoyed with yourself or your body. (I realize that can be hard to do; I was very annoyed at my body the day I played too many video games, somehow pressed something wrong on my sciatic nerve while sitting, and couldn't walk the next day. Bodies are poorly designed! Hmmphf.)

Man, it's a major drag to have one of our complex human joints out of kilter. About the only cold comfort (aside from the ice) is the era in which it happened; at least you've got access to 21st-century med tech. Too soon for zero-G convalescence, but at least we've got laproscopy. And you've got lots of friends who are thinking about you.

Charges overnight.

If you can't heal quickly, then concentrate on healing well.

Look at it as being designated baby holder for a while. Sending healing thoughts your way.

I can think of two specific things that are good about the upcoming con weekend. First, there will be no ice inside the hotel, unless it is in glasses. And second, you will have lots and lots of people who will be happy to be your feet, or assign their kids to be your feet. (Mine will be on the list in another 2-3 years, but he's a little young yet.)
