Dr. Bob called with the results of the MRI on my knee. Apparently, I tore the ACL. I also tore the PCL. I also tore the MCL.

The good news is that there's no cartilage damage.

What Bob is trying to figure out is why my lower leg is still connected to my upper leg.

I looked at the snow and decided to work from home today...

Because skin is much tougher than we generally give it credit for?

Seriously, I shudder to read the first paragraph. I hope they can fix all that, and definitely don't take any chances with messing it up worse.

Anne sends you hugs, and said something about ;'the shin bone's connected to the knee bone...'

Get well soon, and take care.

Ouch!

A web search reveals that there is only one ligament (LCL) you didn't tear.

Hope you can have the inevitable surgery quickly and get this over with.

(winces) Owww..... My sympathies. Been there, done that, 1973.

Muscles are considerably stronger than we give them credit for, trust me.

The really good news is that in 2007, they can fix it.

Hope the Saga of the Knee turns out to be short and (relatively) easy.

Damn. If you were a baseball or football player, you'd probably be out for the season.

I'm hoping they can schedule the surgery Real Soon.

Who knew we had an ACL, MCL, and PCL.

Hope you feel better soon.

Aaarrrghhh. I'm not wide-eyed optimistic enough to wish for "speedy recovery," but I'll definitely wish you a "trouble-free fix followed by a full recovery"!

I'd much rather *this* had been your rabbithole post! *hug* Good luck with it! And you *definitely* better be sitting and pointing at Capricon about where you want me to put particular piles of CDs...

Wikipedia is your friend. Or, in this case, your friend who will never sugarcoat the truth.

OW!!!! Ok, skin and muscles are strong... but Dr. Bob is right- thank ghu for those tougher than average Roper tissues of yours!!!

Fingers crossed for the surgery. We're thinking of ya here.

Wow--you really messed yourself up, Roper!

I hope the surgery goes well and that you have a full recovery.

Well, when you tear up your knee, you certainly do it right.

And for those who don't know the acronyms, and don't want to look 'em up online:

There are 4 major ligaments that stabilized the knee and keep it doing what it should, the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament, known in your pets as the cranial cruciate), the PCL (posterior cruciate ligament, in pets this is the caudal cruciate), and the medial and lateral collateral ligaments.

The cruciates prevent the joint sliding front to back, the collaterals keep the knee from hinging side-to-side.

And yes, Fido and Fluffy can get knee injuries, too :-)

Well, to clarify, as there are other ligaments involved in the knee - these 4 are the biggies :-)

Ouch! Best of luck getting an early surgery date.

I thought ACL stood for Access Control List, and PCL is a HP's Printer Control Language. Too many TLAs.

Ouch.

I tore my ACL in both knees in a skiing accident in 1975. They didn't do surgery, and I didn't really do the rehab I should have (not that there was much available in 1975), but my knees have never been the same since. It can be a struggle going uphill under load.

On the upside, these things can be repaired and heal with surgery and rehab. It's no fun, but it's better than amputation.

Hang in there. You can do it.

You're just a big overachiever. :-)

Seriously, let's thank whatever powers that be that you did this now and not ten years ago. Yeah, you're going to have some serious non-fun PT, but you're almost surely going to walk without a limp or pain.

Or to put it a more fun way: Yes, you will be your daughter's pony. In fact, you'll probably be ready before she is.

Wise, Bill. Very, very, very wise!

Best of healing wishes winging your way.
