We have successfully brought Kathleen home to our hotel room. She seems to like the car seat.

Now, if we could just figure out how it snaps into the stroller base. (On the other hand, if we don't figure it out, by the time she hits the weight limit for the car seat, I'll have gotten some serious exercise.)

I may need it, although Gretchen finally managed to show me where the release was to get the car seat out. This was tricky when I was studying it out in the parking lot while she was in the hospital with Kathleen.

Congratulations.

Many police stations have an officer who will double check the way the base is installed in your car to make sure it is installed properly. Even following the directions, something like 80% of the seats aren't installed properly. Elaine and I made sure to take each of our cars in at least once a year to have the seat bases checked.

As for the stroller, we can take a look when we come by.

What he said. In fact it's more than 80% not installed correctly, let alone the super secret (correct) ways to arrange the straps around the baby.

Did anyone tell you about NO snow suits or blankets between the baby and the seat? It invalidates the warranty and safety approval, because the safety approval was based on testing without such extra padding, which compress in the case of collisions. It's amazing they allow the baby to wear clothes. Pile blankets on top.

Yep, we heard about the no blankets part, although I'll have to check with Gretchen about the no snow suits. (Yes, she says she heard that, but hadn't told me yet. Since there's as yet no snow suit to wear... :) )

This car seat goes in using the LATCH system, which seems pretty straightforward. Certainly it's not going anywhere easily.

Gretchen got the strap briefing from our friends with the same seat. I've seen Formula One racers who weren't strapped in this well.

Hint with the stroller. Make sure the arrow on the handle is straight up and down (it says which color is to be used with the stroller). Then give it a good push. Half the time I couldn't get the dumb thing latched in, but it sits pretty snugly in the stroller without the latch if you're running into somewhere quickly. For a whole day at the mall, I bothered getting it latched, but to run into the grocery store, I usually left it unlatched unless I got it in the first 2 or 3 times.

Yes... there is a definitive sweet spot to get the carrier to latch into the stroller. For starters you should make sure that the hooks that the stroller latches onto are actually flipped up. They flip up and down so that way they don't poke the little one in the butt when they're no longer in the carrier. And just for completeness sake the carrier goes in with the baby facing the person pushing the stroller. Won't work the other way. Not that I didn't try the first few times. :)

Actually, I think we've got a different stroller than you do. We got the Combi stroller that folds up really small. The problem was a couple of tabs that need to be removed so that the seat will sit correctly on the stroller bar. Once we managed to get them off (the instructions wanted a screwdriver -- we beat them into submission with the screwdriver attachment on my Swiss Army knife), the seat went in quite nicely.

That is indeed a different stroller than we have. We have the Pilko P3 and i never did get the hang of getting that carrier snapped into it!
