Storms are pretty... hurricanes especially so... just as long as you're not in them.
Growing up in Mississippi, it wasn't uncommon for my dad to look around while a tornado wandered our neighborhood (we lived on a lake... tornadoes like lakes) and realize I wasn't in the house. He'd find me outside, clinging to a tree, revelling in the storm.
Katrina left too much destruction in her wake for me to be terribly enthralled with her, though I'm thankful that my parents emerged from the basement to discover that their northeast Mississippi town had not taken any major damage. Hopefully they'll find the same about Tupelo (where Dad's business is) in the morning.
Yeah. I just look at the information that's available to today's meteorologists and think that my dad would have killed for it when he was forecasting typhoons in the Pacific.
Looks like they came through it okay... hometown and my dad's business (Aberdeen and Tupelo, respectively) are okay. Amory, about 20 miles east, got hit hard and has a lot of downed trees and power outages, so I think my parents were very very lucky!
