Just the Fax, Ma'am

I win. I think.

The old van was financed through Daimler Chrysler Financial, which no longer exists. However, all of the assets were sold to Ally Financial, which also picked up GMAC.

Now, the only question was "How did the transfer of records go?"

Apparently, it went well. I called Ally this morning, gave them the VIN for the old van, it is in their system, and they will fax a release of lien to my bank (because I don't have a fax here and I don't want to wait for the mail) which I can then use to sell the van to samwinolj and Bonnie.

It may take a day or two to get the release, but this is moving in a much better direction now.

I don't know if your trials and tribulations with your van's title inspired me or not, but after paying off my car loan last night - and having done so at a "Credit Union Service Branch" for the Credit Union who held the loan (Motorola Employees Credit Union in IL) - I called them this morning to confirm that the title would be sent to me once the loan processed as paid off.

Oddly, I also found out I still owed a bit over $14.00 on the loan - which I had transferred out of checking.

I don't plan on selling my car real soon - and it will probably be to a dealer or CarMax if I do - since it will be part of paying for a new vehicle. (I could almost see selling it to my niece, except I doubt she could afford it on top of school expenses)

Glad to hear Ally is helping you out. I am using Ally for banking, and I take some heat for it because they took bailout money and are mostly GMAC which leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

But in over a year that I've been using them, at every point of contact they absolutely could not have treated me better. I can get to a real person usually immediately, never more than about 1 minute, and they've been as helpful as anyone could ask every time. They never have to escalate calls to get things done, which means I don't have to explain my situation 6 times to get things done as I do with most places.
