By way of [livejournal.com profile] johno, I present a fine collection of really bad ice cream flavors that actually exist.

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise once invented "Tomato Shrimp Bisque" ice cream when she needed a really bad one for an improv sketch. Mercifully, it doesn't appear above.

Garlic ice cream is good, but I wouldn't want it mixed with chocolate.

My standard example of a disgusting ice cream flavor (which I've thankfully never actualy encountered and fervently hope doesn't actually exist) is Chicken Ripple.

In a previous life, I was an undergrad at Penn State's main campus. Their College of Agriculture had a good sized dairy herd and a full dairy and creamery operation. The best part was The Creamery - an ice cream shop on campus that sold their own ice cream.

Every year, there was some kind of a contest where the Dairy Science seniors would invent new ice cream flavors, some of which wound up for sale at The Creamery. Legend had it that many had tried, but none had ever produced a successful Beer ice cream. (Why yes, Penn State was a big party school back then).

Depending on the alcohol content, it would be really difficult to freeze.

Long before the glories of Iron Chef (with its Squid Ink Ice Cream and such), Whose Line Is It Anyway? had a "Scene From A Hat" of "Bad Ice Cream Flavors", which Ryan Stiles opened and closed with one shot: "Mm -- have you tried the pork?"

What about the borcht ice cream that Bassetts Ice Cream once sent to Nikita Kruschev?

Sorry—it was borcht sorbet.

And it was borscht, too.

That page seriously needs a warning label. I think I may have busted something from laughing so hard.

Bill may remember the ritual of the Ice Cream Horrible from ChUSFA days, but I must admit it would have been a good deal more horrible if we'd used ingredients like those.

I personally never really played the "what's the worst ice cream flavor" game; I always preferred "what's the worst pizza topping". The worst I ever came up with was blue cheese and chocolate sauce (with or without tomato sauce).

Course there was Morimoto's "Trout Ice Cream"

My very first job was scooping ice cream at Baskin-Robbins. That year at Halloween they had a special seasonal flavor, obviously chosen for its colors.. orange and black.. yes Orange and Liquorish. Yes.. it was just a nummy as it sounds.. GAG.

Course for one of more... curious customer we did make him a milkshake out of it.. it was a tasty grey color.

Our friend, Norman, has asked me to make him an ice cream to use for a beer float. (He doesn't care for root beer) I should get the recipe for the "Tomato Shrimp Bisque" and make it for him. He'd be ever so pleased!
