I sent the Musecon demo mix off to Eric and Lizzie today. I need to send it to Amy too, but I think she's at GAFilk.

One (small) project down.

Bob Garcia has been doing the layout for all of the ISFiC Press books that we're released so far, up through and including the second volume of Seanan McGuire's Velveteen stories, Velveteen vs. The Multiverse, that we'll be releasing at Musecon early in August. In fact, he had planned to wrap up his work with us after the first volume, but I asked him nicely if he could stay on so that there were no layout discontinuities between the two books and he happily agreed to do so.

Well, with Bob's departure, I had been planning to pick up doing the layouts. And since I had some of the material for the next (not-yet-announced) book in hand, I figured I could drop it into InDesign and see how it went.

I haven't yet done all of the typographical corrections -- and to be honest, I'm not sure if we've done the proofreading on that story yet! -- but I now have a tiny bit of experience at doing layout. And I sent it to Bob for feedback, because he was also gracious enough to be willing to offer advice.

We'll see how it goes.

I needed to get together with [livejournal.com profile] qnofhrt this evening to discuss some Windycon business left over from last night's meeting that neither of us were at, so she suggested we meet at the weekly dinner of the techie crew at the Palatine Inn. Ange promised that the locale was kid-friendly, so [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, Katie, and Julie came along.

The business is now sorted out (along with some Musecon items I was able to help with and some Chicon items that I put on the queue). Dinner was a fine time and flew by quickly enough that when we left a bit more than two hours later, Gretchen was looking at the clock in the van and saying "It's how late?"

So I'd have to count this as a success. :)
