Cycling Through the Past
Apr. 29th, 2015 10:44 amI finally ditched enough of this damned respiratory infection that I got back on the exercycle this week. As a result, I am once again reading back issues of Time magazine, in this case from 2003.
In the issue I just finished, there was an article about Oracle launching a hostile takeover bid for PeopleSoft. There were a number of companies discussed in the article. Save for Microsoft, IBM, and SAP, I think Oracle has now acquired all of them.
I pulled the last issue off the current stack of magazines, then dug down to a deeply buried shelf in the closet to pull the last massive stack of Time up to the now empty and more accessible shelf. When I did so, two comics from 2003 surfaced: H.E.R.O. #1 and Harley Quinn #27.
Did you know that they used to print comics on newsprint? In the current millennium?

A Brief Amnesty
Jul. 22nd, 2014 05:44 pmWhen we headed out for Detcon, I knew that I would not be on the exercycle on Thursday morning as we were heading out the door, nor on Friday at the hotel. But when we got home, I decided that I really needed the sleep and took Monday off too.
But as of this morning, I'm back on the bike and reading about the Time magazine Persons of the Year for 2003.
Whee!

Back In the Saddle Again
Jun. 26th, 2014 10:38 pmAs of tomorrow morning (assuming that I get out of bed and do it), I'll have been back on the exercycle for three weeks. My legs are feeling much better, which is partially due to finally healing up and partially due to the exercise, or so I suspect.
The Time Warp with old issues of the magazine that I'm reading on the exercycle is currently in the first half of 2003. It's remarkable reading.
It's not what you know that gets you in trouble. It's what you know that isn't so...

I managed to get back on the exercycle again last Friday, now that it's repaired. Monday and Tuesday were also successful excursions. The Schwinn Airdyne is happily blowing the lubricant from the repaired assembly onto my left leg which has the most interesting collection of water-insoluble gray spots on it, but this will eventually pass.
There will be no exercycle tomorrow as I'm heading into the Loop for meetings in the morning. But if the weather is good, there will be a brisk walk across the Loop and back, so it's not a total exercise loss. :)
