Last weekend was spent down at Eclipse Camp just north of Indianapolis where I had a wonderful time talking to friends and listening to and making music. And I got to see a total eclipse of the sun, which was cool. We even saw a prominence that was visible to the naked eye during totality, which is something I didn't see the first time that I saw a total eclipse, although that trip had a better view of the corona than the high clouds allowed last weekend.

The important thing though was that my kids got to see their first total eclipse. I knew what it was like. They didn't.

And now they do.

They were suitably impressed.

All of the Ropers have returned safely from Eclipse Camp (we took two cars, so I have waited until everyone is here to report in). We are very tired.

But we had a wonderful time!

And the kids got to see a total eclipse for the first time, which satisfied my most important goal for the excursion. We had some high cloud, but it didn't prevent the eclipsed sun from shining through.

You know, before photography, if you told someone what you had seen, they would simply have refused to believe you. :)

Eclipse Camp is going well. The music is excellent. :)

Bags are packed, so it's time to toss them in the car and head south.

And we'll see who is there. :)

K and I passed our pre-travel COVID test, so we are good to head out for Eclipse Camp tomorrow after school.

I am hoping that the weather forecast continues to be good. :)

(Gretchen and J will follow on Saturday. Ruby is heading to the kennel...)

We had about 89% coverage of the sun here in the Chicago area which is, well, not really all that exciting. But with the eclipse falling on the first day of school, I had finally decided that we should just let this one go. Maybe in seven years or so...

Having seen totality once before, it wasn't as big a deal to miss it. :)

In the meantime, the girls had a good first day, so that made staying home more worthwhile.
