Out to the Stars
Nov. 24th, 2004 04:43 pmOk, that was Monday's song. Here's Tuesday's.
In the dawn of creation.
The Big Bang in conflagration.
Catch the tide of inflation
And ride her back to the stars.
Supernovas expire.
Great stars dying in fire.
Catch the light from the pyre
And ride it out to the stars.
Take it back to the stars.
Out to the stars.
We are the stuff that stars are made of.
We are the old stars given birth.
Supernovas making tradeoffs.
Giving life to give us life on Earth.
In the blink of an eye, we're
Mankind turning eyes skyward.
Left here wondering why we're
Reaching out for the stars.
Seeking sisters and brothers
Who might know one another,
Share the urge to discover
The highway back to the stars.
That pathway back to the stars.
Out to the stars.
We're sons and daughters of creation.
We are the children of the stars.
Gathered together in one nation.
Taking back the galaxy that's ours.
[Instrumental break on the verse]
We're sons and daughters of creation.
We are the children of the stars.
Gathered together in one nation.
Taking back the galaxy that's ours.
We're the sons of tomorrow
And we're ready to call all
People waiting to follow
The highway back to the stars.
New stars, planets await us.
Starlight shines down to wake us.
Now time can't overtake us.
We're going back to the stars.
We're riding out to the stars.
Out to the stars.
I suppose I should get seasick more often -- not!
In the dawn of creation.
The Big Bang in conflagration.
Catch the tide of inflation
And ride her back to the stars.
Supernovas expire.
Great stars dying in fire.
Catch the light from the pyre
And ride it out to the stars.
Take it back to the stars.
Out to the stars.

In the 32 years since, no man has seen, with his own eyes, Earth as that beautiful, solitary blue sphere, and - reality check - no woman has ever seen it at all. We've been only to low Earth orbitsince 1972, and from that altitude of 220 miles, looking at the 7,900-mile-diameter Earth is like peering at a basketball with your cheek pressed against it. Yes, you'll see curvature, but you're not seeing the whole thing. We've spent 32 years "exploring space" in low Earth orbit. Exploring nothing. To stay in orbit you have to go 17,000 mph, or Mach 25. So we've spent three decades going nowhere fast."
