Baseball's version of the Infinite Improbability Drive must have been spinning like crazy tonight, because the Cardinals and the Rays are off to the playoffs.

Who'da thunk it? :)

I spent most of the evening glued to the MLB Network. It was amazing.

It's amazing that both wild card leaders going in to September managed to find the exit. I know from hanging with the Angels so many years that a big lead at the beginning of the month means nothing at all.

Meanwhile, how about that Tampa Bay game?!? I was trying to describe it to the girl at the Subway counter who hadn't seen it yet. She said that I had to be making up a script for a Disney movie, it was that perfect. I think you'll be seeing that one for many years.

Truly.

Nate Silver:

"Multiply those four probabilities together, and you get a combined probability of about one chance in 278 million of all these events coming together in quite this way."

And he was just talking about the Red Sox and the Rays, not the combined probabilities that both the Rays and the Cardinals would reach the playoffs.
