With big thanks to dave_ifversen who came by and helped me fix my eight-track recorder, I have finally transferred the master for The Grim Roper from the original eight-track master to Cubase where it will be just a bit easier to work with. :)

There is one song, "Dream Rider", that is absolutely, positively not going to end up on the remix, because the original recording is pretty awful. On the other hand, daisy_knotwise wants me to put a bonus track on the album, so when this is done, everyone will come out even.

Actually, all things considered, everyone is going to come out ahead...

Did you by chance find any extra tracks on the master tape? And congratulations on getting that transferred!

It looks like the tape might have been used at some point for a bit of Cecilia Eng, as there's a couple of spare tracks that sound like her floating around at the beginning of one of the tapes. I didn't have time to identify which song, but I'm fairly confident that it would have surfaced elsewhere.

There's a fragment of "Promises" that we abandoned when we decided to hold that song and "The Destroyer" off of The Grim Roper so as to not completely cut the legs out from under Liftoff to Landing. Other than that, no surprises whatsoever.

Now it's just a matter of finding the time to do the mixdown. Fortunately, the mixdown won't be too complex, other than reducing the amount of breath noises that would have been much less noticeable on cassette tape.

Hmm... Check "Of Shoes and Ships" for a possible match on song titles since its from the right time.

I'm glad the fix for the eight-track machine worked - especially the mega-kludge we had to do on the tape tension sensor!
