Civic Duty Postponed

I was scheduled as a standby juror today, but when I called last night, they only wanted people whose last names began with the letters A through E, so I got to stay home and work today. Given what's going on around work right now, that was probably a really good thing. :)

Lucky! I had to go in today for the first round of juror filtering. It's expected to be a 5-6 week trial and the judge is not letting people off due to financial hardship (not a problem for me due to an odd policy at work) NOR due to a sister's wedding being during the trial time-frame. He did say if I made it all the way through final juror selection they would "try to work around" the dates I will be away due to the wedding. "try to" makes me really nervous; I'm hoping they don't like my answers to the various screening questions! I have to go back Friday for the next round of juror filtering.

One of my friends from D.C. has a gun collection and belongs to the NRA. He says that, when he shows up for jury selection wearing his NRA pin, he always gets rejected. He blames it on sheer prejudice against gun owners.
