So the new computer is now back in its place in the basement, Windows 7 is installed, and the 69 updates from Windows Update are busy installing themselves. Eventually, I will regain control of the whole process and can start installing useful things like Cubase.

But, for now, it's just nice to know that I didn't find some new way to completely botch the assembly. :)

The Windows performance index reports that the slowest thing in the machine is the old graphics card, followed closely by the new disk drives. Neither of these is a surprise, since the graphics card is a few years old now, while the hard drives are SATA 3.0 on a motherboard that's capable of supporting SATA 6.0.

The CPU, on the other hand, is a zippy fast quad core 3.3 GHz.

I think I'll live with that.

I hope you got a W7 that had SP1 slipstreamed in. It's been a dicey computer killer. We lost three here.

How can you tell that your hard drives are SATA 3.0 and that your motherboard can take SATA 6.0 drives?

Also, is Windows 7 any good?
