The new motherboard arrived today and -- despite being pretty exhausted, because I was up past 3 AM two nights ago working with my Indian colleague and then up before 6 AM this morning for a meeting down in the Loop -- I've installed it in the studio computer. I still need to make sure I installed everything correctly and to install the OS and all the software, but it's progress.

Interestingly, I hadn't noticed that this motherboard has no floppy support. I assume there's some way to get the RAID drivers installed. Or maybe they're included with Windows 7...

Microsoft FINALLY got their shit together with Win7 and Server2008, and both are able to pull drivers from USB devices.

Thank God! I remember installing Windows2003 on a computer once, and having to go home and fetch a USB floppy drive from my laptop kit in order to install the RAID drivers. I was an odd combination of bemused and furious, and kept muttering things like "It's the 21st century, for god's sake" and "stone knives and bearskins".

I had a MB with no floppy support at least 15 years ago. I remember it well, as we had to dig out an ISA floppy card. I suspect we still have the card in the back room.

Hurpmph. I guess my login cookie expired. Didn't notice until after the post that I was anonymous.
