I am deep in trying to unravel the mysteries of the boost::asio library.

It appears to be very clever. Sadly, I could use a bit less cleverness and a bit more straightforwardness at the moment...

Clever belongs in the implementation of a library, not in the interface.

Cleverness doesn't belong in the implementation either. Clarity always trumps.
