We've been garaging [livejournal.com profile] catalana's car while she's off on her summer vacation, it being a good bit cheaper than long-term parking. Since I've been wondering if a Ford Fusion is a suitable successor vehicle to my Ford Five Hundred (rebadged and just refreshed as the Ford Taurus), Erica was good enough to agree that I could drive her car about for an extended test drive.

This started today, right after I replaced the tire with the alarming bulge in the sidewall. (I'd spotted this right after Erica left town, but hadn't had a chance to do anything about it until now.) So far, so good.

I will be interested to see what you think. We looked at one at the Auto Show, and were even more interested when we found out it's being offered in a hybrid version. My big complaint with our cars is that while they get great highway mileage, they get cruddy city mileage, which, unfortunately, is what we do the most.

The Fusion did pass my first test, which is 'can I sit in the back seat with the front seat set up for me?" Which it did. Looks like the trunk is pretty good too.

I had a Ford Fusion as a rental in Massachusetts this weekend, and did a LOT of driving. (About 400 miles over the course of 3 days). It was a very pleasant car to drive, and I wouldn't mind owning one in the future. (I'm still deleriously happy with the Prius, but before i actually bought that, I was looking longingly at the Fusion.)
