The studio had devolved into a bit of a mess, so I figured I'd spend some time cleaning it tonight, putting things back in place before [livejournal.com profile] ladyat arrived to record tracks for Juanita's album this weekend. It was a good theory.

Instead, the bulk of the early part of the evening was spent installing a new DSL modem which may or may not have fixed my connectivity problems. Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise was able to stop on her way home from [livejournal.com profile] janmagic's and pick one up at Fry's. According to the Speakeasy tech, the error rate is down, but it's not clear whether this was the problem or not. We'll have to wait and see.

I finally got back down to work on the studio starting about 9:30 PM. The keyboard is back where it belongs, now wired up to my old guitar amp so you can hear it without headphones. The network is rewired, save for the network connection to the mixer, which I'll investigate more later. And the floor of the control room is vacuumed and the crap in the windows and in the corners has been washed or sucked away.

I think I'll go up and see if there are any girls who need to be kissed before they go to bed. :)

Glad the studio is up and running and good luck with the recording sessions. I had a few problems at the start with mine, mostly because of the sound card in our new recording computer which we replaced and a problem with an automatic service pack update which my M-Audio board didn't like at all so refused to talk to CuBase. Sue had to talk to the M-Audi techkies about that one and we ended up reinstalling the old service pack. Now we turn off automatic updates to the computer and I also disconnect the internet while recording which was causing hiccups when recording and mixing. I have been busy recording scratch tracks for our Stone Dragons CD and have 15 or so already. We also have paid the licencing fee for most of the songs which is a big relief. Wish we were this close with the DW CD. Still a lot of licences to get and Dave will be here in late March to do what I hope is the final mix. I have been listening to your scratch tracks Bill and like what I hear.

My wife got told she needed a new DSL modem by the tech ... I got one, the problem didn't totally go away but got better. Meanwhile, I have one that's less than a year old and sometimes have problems pulling up pages until I retry (sometimes even the DNS lookup fails)--but it's worse with XP and firefox 3.6 than with Ubuntu and 3.5, I'm not sure which is the problem.
