I found a place on the web where I can order the parts to fix (probably) the DAT player, so the parts are now ordered and should be on their way soon. Actually, it's just one part, but I bought two of them so I'd have a spare, since this particular part tends to go bad just from the DAT player sitting unused. *sigh*

And then, I should be able to do these transfers.

What are you attempting to transfer from DAT tape to hard drive? (Just wondering what audio gem we might see from you in the near future.)

Sounds like one of the belts - they tend to turn into goo when the machine just sits there. Very messy when it happens.

I've had two belts so far turn into actual, real goo. One was on a turntable, the other was on an 8-track player (remember those? :-) ) - of course, these units sat unused for a *long* time (something like 4 or 5 years). Surprised the heck out of me - when they wouldn't work anymore, I opened the units up, and there was all this black, sticky stuff in there - about the same consistency of pudding, and it gets into everything. I wondered where it came from until I realized it was the remains of the belts. Yuck.
