After almost exactly a twelve hour drive, we got home about an hour ago. Now we're cleaning up the collateral cat damage, as the door to Katie's room that I carefully closed before leaving wasn't closed when we got back.

Bad kitty.

And now Gretchen is giving the girls a bath while I dig through a lifetime supply of work-related e-mail.

Scientific kitty

I've seen my cat jump up to a door knob and try to spin it with her paws before she dropped back to the floor. If Margot had had thumbs, or if the doorhandle was a lever instead of a knob, she would have been through it. Certainly, she understood the trick of how knobs latch doors shut.

I expect that your kitty had ample experimentation time with nothing more interesting to do . . .

Our Maine Coon Tally not only knows how doorknobs work, he has no trouble with them (we have levers all through the house, mostly for the convenience of Ange's mother). Tally has even been known to open the back (sliding) screen door and let himself out on the deck (we have to keep the screen door locked if we have the french doors open for air) - we have enough hawks, eagles, and coyotes around here (we back on to a forest preserve) that it's just too dangerous for him to go out. Besides that, he's a four-paw declaw (not our choice, we got him that way from the shelter).
