The problem with working at home is convincing Katie that I really need to work. I don't think she's quite internalized the concept yet.

My ninety year old great uncle hasn't managed it yet either. *g*

You have it. I think mine internalized the concept round about when they turn 20. Years, that is.

Has [livejournal.com profile] fuzzbucket_cat internalized the concept yet?

My parents instilled it in me. With volume. And really grouchy dialogue.

And have never, ever, ONCE, accepted me saying 'I'm sorry, I'm working, I really can't talk right now.' Either in person or on the phone.

I don't recommend the tactic.

Here's what some of the Work At Home Moms of my acquaintance have found to work with young humans of Miss Katie's age:

'Katie, when Dad's door is closed, he is having quiet time. Can you be really grown up and help him with it? It'd be really great if you'd play with (not quite favorite toy) here.'

Don't forge the bribe for success. And don't expect more than 10 - 20 minutes at a go: she's only 3-4.

Home is for play. When you're away from home, you don't exist so it what you're doing doesn't matter.
