Earsheep

After one of our friends mentioned that Aardman Animations had a series of stop-motion animated stories about "Shaun the Sheep", I went hunting on the web and then on TV Guide On Screen to discover that the Disney Channel is showing these a couple of times a day as bumpers. So I set up the DVR to start recording them.

Katie loves them. Katie loves them a whole lot. When one finishes, she smiles, looks up, and says "Again!" Perhaps we should work on "Again, please!"

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise has observed that the big problem with these is that each one is about five minutes long. A recorded Tigger & Pooh is 25 minutes long, which is long enough for her to take a shower. Shaun the Sheep would require a level of precision bathing that the Gilbreth family would be proud of.

The really bad thing is that the title theme is catchy. Annoyingly catchy. And it gets into your head. And it won't get out. (I'd link to it, but the links don't appear to work in the U.S.)

Yes, not so much an earworm. More of an earsheep.

I have heard that thinking about "The Girl From Ipanema" will kill just about any earwormsheep.

Or maybe Just take a leap (or Just make a leap) thinkingof the scansion...

Heh, now if your DVD player plays region 2 DVDs you buy the whole lot ina big box set, which overcomes the whole timing-bathing issue...

We have the first season and only didn't buy the lot at Christmas because I concluded we'd already spent enough money.

Some of them are on YouTube...

Talk about tenuous connections.... Imagining Katie saying, "Again!" started an echo in my head that led to something I'd completely forgotten: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101081/

But I'm pretty sure that a DVD of that show would be a terrible influence. :-)

I haven't seen Shaun the Sheep, but if the episodes are only 5 minutes long apiece, couldn't you burn your own DVD with 6 to 12 episodes or however many you can manipulate, and pop that in for a "mommy's breather"?

I'm assuming Katie's still in the age range where the same episodes coming up in the same order is a plus and not a turnoff.

We caught a few episodes on a plane last Christmas -- good stuff. The problem with playing a whole DVD-worth of episodes will be the 16 repetitions of the very catchy and repetitive theme song. The kids will love it, but the adults... may grow weary.

Life-sized, even:
