[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I had planned to watch Mamma Mia while the girls took a nap this afternoon, a plan that was altered about halfway through the film when it became obvious that Katie had no intention of actually sleeping. While Gretchen took care of the resulting mess, I grabbed a push broom and worked ineffectually through the bedroom window to try to knock some snow off the roof where it looks like we have an ice dam. I need a longer broom. We'll look at Home Depot later to see if they have any of the correct tools left in stock.

Oh, yes. The film. Well, I may not look as good as Pierce Brosnan, but I can outsing him. :)

Katie and Julie joined us to watch the end of the film. Afterwards, we took a quick look at the very limited bonus features on the disk, which included a sing-along section. I cued up the Dancing Queen / Waterloo bit just before the end credits and we started singing.

And Katie started dancing.

We are so doomed. :)

that our kids are filkers & the daughters of filkers. You should have heard the "Barney Osbourne" (Purple dinosaur meets Black Sabbath & both lose) parodies last night.

Most people's pet dog could out-sing Pierce . . .

You are in another league!!

But outside of his singing I know Evan and I loved the heck out of this movie, and even paid to see it more than once in the theater (we went to the sing-along version).

When we were in Guangzhou, there was a place down the street from the White Swan (hotel famous in the adoption community, since the US consulate was next door and the ONLY place you could go through the paperwork for getting the kid out of the country and back home) called Lucy's which served 'Western' food; sort of a cafe.

HEAVY nostalgia quotient there, with tons of posters, pictures and so forth, and the music in the place was wall to wall 1970s stuff. Mere's first exposure to Western music (as she was chowing down on chicken congee (think a very thick chicken and rice soup) was Abba. Tons and tons of Abba.

Oh, how she bounced around. Couldn't walk, but she loved the music. She's always loved a strong beat and rhythm line.

Maybe I need to rent that movie and see the reaction.
