Report From Gas War Alley

When I saw the BP down near work had gas for $1.899, I figured I was going to see some more price drops around home shortly. And indeed, when I drove past Elmhurst and Dempster, I found the Citgo at $1.879 and the Jewel at $1.869.

Sadly, however, the Jewel did not have brand-name cream corn and the last time we used their house brand, it seemed a bit off. Fortunately, the Dominick's did have brand-name cream corn and Honeycrisp apples on sale for $1.59 per pound. This was good.

It was interesting to note that the Bush's Grilling Beans were 35 cents a can more than at the Jewel, though. This probably helps explain why we don't shop at the Dominick's often.

As I drove through Oakwood this afternoon, gas was $1.569.

bush's beans. just ask the Bush bean's family dog. he seems ready to spill the beans.

gas is about 1.69 in NJ.
seems to me it ought to be a lot lower. in 1998, when oil was $40, gas was below a dollar. it's $50 a barrel right now. i guess after $4, they figure no one is going to notice.

you are just getting gas on the wrong side of town
at the jewel gas station it was 179.?? on ogden and cass?
at the delta car wash it was 176.?? with a wash on ogden in downers grove.
speedway was also 179 at several locations.

a long while ago there was an article about grocery shopping. the dominics that i shop at was ranked the most expensive. and the shoppers didnt care.
i truly hate how the jewel's layout is and their parking lots are worse.

i do shop woodmans when i get to 88 and orchard aurora. they are employee owned great prices and you need a segway to get to everything.

Oh, I could clearly get cheaper gas outside of Cook County. It's just usually not cost effective to drive there to get it. :)

I just paid $1.799. Oh, that was premium.

I filled up today for $1.599. The same station was at $1.679 yesterday, and $1.799 when I filled up a week ago.
