We're back from ConClave where we had a fine time. We actually made good time on the drive home, arriving about five hours after finishing dinner with [livejournal.com profile] catalana, despite a few of Katie's best efforts.

Julie is now getting a bottle and Katie is calmly watching her Pooh DVD.

Before the next trip, there is going to be a rear-seat DVD system of some sort. And there will be peace in our time. :)

I used to think in car video systems were indulgent and mindless brain candy-- bad things. Then we bought a car that happened to have one in it, and made the 10 hour trip from Chicago to my mother's with no whining, complaining, fighting.

Gods blessings on whomever thought of them.

We arrived sane and in good temper, unlike any other time we made the trip. We have a portable one now that that car has died. Any trip over 3 hours gets the DVD player brought along.

We picked up a 2 player system at Sam's Club. Right now, it works well to keep David occupied, while one or the other of us can change out discs with the second player on the front seat. We figure later to have both players hooked up for the respective children. And I _think_ it will still allow us to hook up another player, but I don't know about that for sure.

And yeah, it's a sanity saver for long car rides :-)

I'm with the other folks here.

We tend to use Susan's SUV for shot hops in the area, unless I'm driving, and the van for big, long trips. We have one portable system, and it moves around.

Our greatest problem is finding a set of headphones she won't either lose or destroy that she will happily wear. After that, the damage to a beloved DVD from when she gets careless with it.

I enjoyed hearing you at the bardic triangle Saturday night--especially hearing some things that were new to me.
