daisy_knotwise bundled Julie off to the pediatrician today for her four month checkup. Everything looks good. She's 26 and 3/4 inches long and 17 lbs. 3 oz. in weight, which puts her in the 100th and 98th percentiles respectively, so the slight chunkiness that we were keeping an eye on appears not to be a problem. Or as the doc said, "She's a big baby." The minor drooling and spit up problem we've noticed is also pretty normal. Apparently, she's big on sucking, but occasionally forgets about the whole swallowing part of the activity. *sigh* :)

In other news, Gretchen reports that Katie is now tall enough to operate door knobs and to press the elevator call button at the doctor's office. This wasn't true two months ago.

The answer we got from our pediatrician when Alex was either 99th percentile or higher on both charts were... "Don't worry... he's proportional" There's a third chart out there which takes age out of the equation and just maps height vs. weight. Alex pretty much hugged the 50th percentile line on that chart. I guess that's what really matters.

Good to hear. Now that Katey can reach door knobs I guess you're into level 3 of childproofing. I think it was at this stage that we started installing hook and eye latches at the tops of the doors. :)

Yeah, they do grow. The worst is when they fall in love with item X, which they can't really wear anymore. We have that problem with Mere all the time, mostly about shoes at the present. The kid's feet have been growing like mad.

Of course, your kid follows what would have been my and Susan's bio direction - big and tall. Mere's cousins in South Dakota are all big and tall, and range in age from 15 to 9, and are all BIG girls. Mere is - well, slim, and small, and Southern Chinese. Honks her off no end that she's not as big as her cousins. She's the youngest and the smallest in her class, and that doesn't help.
