Arriving In the Wrong Story #3

About this time, our hero was starting to wonder if he was going to manage to get anyone to pay attention to the dam above the town where the water was already high and getting higher as the thunderstorm hit. "Would you just look?" he shouted.

And the mayor looked up across the rooftops at the dam. "Hey! That dam's going to break!"

"That's what I've been trying to tell you."

"There's nothing wrong with that dam," came a voice from behind our hero. He turned and found that he was facing the police chief, standing there with gun drawn. "You've been scaring everybody about this long enough."

"Apparently not, because you still aren't paying attention." He turned to the mayor. "Aren't you in charge here?"

"I thought so, but it seems that he's got the gun."

Yes, so he does.

So the question that comes to mind is whether the hero in this story is you and your blind coworkers or a metaphor for the country.

You do realize that once the dam breaks, that "our hero" will be blamed

Yeah, we trust that our hero has documented his attempts to warn the town and will at least be able to point out to the governor that he told them so when the governor comes for his photo op viewing of the disaster.

One hopes that our hero is bulletproof. Or that gun's gonna go off and make a hole in the dam that no little Dutchboy will be able to fix by poking a finger in it (as if that worked in real life, but this is fantasy/allegory, right?)
