And this version, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] catalana, slightly retitled:

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

Note: I regard all of this as optional. So if you choose not to post something, that's cool. Or if you don't want to do it in your journal, that's cool too. But it looks like a fun way to distract myself while packing a zillion boxes waiting to find out what happens to my car next.

I remember you being cool enough to appear in the 20th anniversary Moebius show doing a parody I wrote even though you weren't really involved in the group anymore. Did I ever thank you for that? I hope so. If not, thanks.

Not so much a single instance, but all the times I've seen you at the interfilk auctions - "For those of you who have not yet had dessert..." *grin* The auctioneers, yourself most certainly included, are a big part of the fun of the auctions.

Given where i'll be spending as much of my weekend as possible, my first memory of you seems appropriate.

Capricon 2004 (24?), late Friday evening. Wandering around looking for a friend i'd promised to notify before hitting the road for home, i found a room down the hall from consuite that was leaking music. Stuck my head in just as you started to play :) Ended up spending a couple hours sitting in a corner on the floor. At one point i realized that i really REALLY should leave, and of course you started another great song (which sucked me down again). Right after that one you stepped out for a moment, and as you passed by you smiled and pointed out some empty chairs just out of my sight :) Good music AND welcoming folk. Hooked and landed *grin*

Hmm....now that i think about it, pretty sure you were playing when i found that room the next night too.....

You and Sutton, many, many cons and moons ago, acting out Thais. I'd consider killing innocent people to get a video of that.

I actually remember the first time I ever saw you perform. It was, god help me, at Bucconeer. You were doing talking about being inspired by something completely irrelevant (I believe it was a children's book that started out "Dark, dark, dark" or something like that.) I must have been smiling and nodding, because you asked if I knew the book. I just shook my head - I was way too shy to talk to you! But I was actually thinking "I've done that kind of thing and taken something completely out of context to write a song about."

My other memory (because, apparently, you get 2 memories for the price of one) was at the dead dog at MilPhil when I was completely dead tired...and then you sang "Too Many Years" and I demanded a copy. Because, woah. I don't actually remember anything else from that dead dog, but that song absolutely grabbed me. (still does, in fact.)

Two:

You and Bill Sutton doing "Thais," as was previously mentioned.

The first time I ever heard you perform was "Wind from Rainbow's End" at a Bayfilk. 20+ years later, it still rings with me.

Sitting in the lounge next to the bar at the old GAFilk hotel, I was noodling on my guitar with my new finger warm up exercise: playing the Harry Potter theme. After I was done, you looked at me and said, "Now you're just showing off."

Oh, good grief.

Two to make you laugh, and cringe..

You and I standing by the elevators at one of the Windy's that we ran, and realizing that the elevators 'weren't' going to come up and get us because some idjut set off the fire alarm, of course sending the elevators rushing for the ground floor... an interesting weekend in the Chinese fashiion.

I remember (Twenty years ago!)running an art auction you were auctioneering for, wearing a miniskirt and 4 inch high heels. You gave me a four-foot stained glass window to run. When I tried to demur, you winked and whispered it was premeditated; people would bid *much* faster if they thought I might trip with it in my hands, so the piece would probably sell for higher.

It went for several hundred dollars, and I remember the wink and the high five you gave to Mike (Robin's husband) afterward.

I also remember playing with Katie and talking with you outside of the GAFilk dance; it was just nice to have a quiet moment to chat without you being "on stage," (fun though that is.)

The first thing(s) that sprang to mind are the two consecutive years we inadvertendly meet up for dinner in the airport food court on our respective ways home from GAFilk.

Well, I'm late with this, and I don't have anything specific. But I'm just remembering all the filks we've been at together, especially when I was still participating.

Sitting in the back of the filk room with Gretchen and Katie, listening to you sing "Midnight Girl"--made me tear up with misty parental mushiness, something I do way too much of. Someday Maddie's going to ask me why I smile and cry at the same time so much. . .
