It looks like Juliana is going to get sprung from the hospital tomorrow morning and we'll be able to bring her back to the hotel while waiting for the temporary guardianship hearing on Wednesday. John and Carol are coming up from Mukwonago to meet us for dinner tomorrow night, so they'll be the first of our friends to meet her.

There were some problems with the hearing test yesterday, but they appear to have been problems with the equipment (as the nurses suspected at the time). Today, Juliana passed the newborn hearing test with flying colors. Yay!

After lunch, [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise took Katie back to the hotel for a nap while I sat with Julie in the family lounge. (The hospital really isn't set up for a situation where the intended parents aren't the same as the ones who gave birth to the baby.) Our gestational carrier and her husband came by earlier in the day when I invited them down; then later, when she was checking out of the hospital with her two young kids in tow, which gave them a chance to meet the baby who'd spent nine months in their mommy's tummy.

I spent much of the afternoon holding Julie and occasionally feeding her while I read Old Man's War -- certainly an interesting juxtaposition. Gretchen got back with Katie just as I finished the novel. I ordered in pizza for dinner and we spent the rest of the evening convincing Katie that Julie was just a bit too fragile for her to play with yet.

Now we're back at the hotel and Gretchen is trying to get Katie to fall asleep.

So far, so good.

*grin* I can see how that might be difficult...

When I was pregnant, I was always irritated with well-meaning strangers who would say to my kids "Aren't you excited? Soon you'll have a brother or sister to play with!"

Um, one to admire and have *soft* hugs and kisses. And if fetch and carry is a good game already, playing bottle, spooge cloth and clean diaper ferry between parents to take advantage of the "helper" impulse, absolutely.

Baby doll an awesome idea.

I had a speech --

This new thing isn't going to be much fun for you for a while, and mostly taking my attention, but if you're patient and treat it kindly, in a few years it will be a WONDERFUL playmate.

I told the cats when we had the first kid (you never quite know what the beasts understand, so I try to keep them informed) and I told Tammy when Mindy was born. (At age 2, I thought she probably understood just a little more of what I was saying than the cats did.)
