So last night, I dreamt that [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise had named the new baby "Jeannette Wilson" without consulting me. "Jeannette" after I don't know what, "Wilson" after the basketball.

I was not pleased, despite the fact that Julianna Margulies approved of the name -- or Carol Hathaway, I suppose, given that we were in a hospital.

Gretchen tells me that she'd mulled over Jeannette as a baby name yesterday and had discarded it without bothering to mention it to me.

Just as well, I suppose.

My genealogical research uncovered a great-great-aunt named Jeanette. Or Jeanet. Or Janet. It depends on the record cited.

I suspect that the spelling wouldn't be any more consistent nowadays than it was in the early 1800s, so just as well your baby won't be named Jeannette.

If you think that's bad, you should met some of my relatives.. Wilma Edna, for instance... or my cousin who named his daughter Kyleebea(for her mother Kym, her grandmother's Leah and Beatrice).

I used to feel sorry for my ancestor Love Brewster, until Tara started working with someone named Love -- and, yes, both were/are men.
