I had noticed before I left for England that Katie had developed a bit of a tummy. This usually seems to precede a growth spurt.

And that's what we got. Katie is now tall enough to reach items that are on the edge of the kitchen counters.

Push 'em back, push 'em back, way back!

And then you hit that period where you have to encourage independence, so you have to get them their own step stool... and nothing is out of reach again.

Oh, I don't know. We were able to continue to relocate objects to a higher plane for quite a while. Of course, our childless friends did wonder why my sewing tools were, briefly, on top of a bookcase in the family room....

Hee!! Yes, I do get curious looks at the strangest things on the top of the fridge. We just don't have a lot of "high up" in the main part of the house, all the bookshelves are in bedrooms or the office. It gets challenging sometimes.

And would you believe? It's only been something like 15 years now since doctors actually found out growth spurts are real. A female doctor did the study. Before then they insisted that there was only one increase in growth rates and it happened in adolescence.
