I give up. Or at least I will give up after my current two year contract expires.

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I got new Sprint phones recently. I swapped my phone for a different (more expensive) one after two days, because I wasn't comfortable with the one that I'd picked.

Since then, I've had two long calls with Sprint Customer Service getting my service plan fixed, because the salesperson signed me up for all sorts of things I didn't want. Although I was supposed to be credited for all that when the plan was fixed during the first call, I wasn't, necessitating a second call.

Today, I got a postcard in the mail indicating that they'd denied my rebate because I hadn't had my previous phone for 12 months. The only way I can figure that is that they're looking at the phone that I swapped.

The sheer incompetence of this operation is amazing.

But they've nicely succeeded in raising my blood pressure for Christmas Eve.

I did some research when I switched carriers last spring. In every survey I found, Verizon and T-Mobile are rated the best on customer service. I chose T-Mobile because I was doing a lot of international travel, and Verizon is weak on international coverage. So far, I've been happy.

I've been a customer of Credo Mobile (http://www.credomobile.com/) (until recently, Working Assets Wireless) since 2005, and of their long-distance landline service since 1997. The customer service can't be beat. They're a nonprofit, and donate a percentage of their revenue to various charitable and educational organizations. They use the Sprint infrastructure (so wherever Sprint has coverage, Credo has coverage), but their operation is otherwise completely separate from Sprint. And they'll send you a free phone.

How much of a choice do you have as to what that free phone is?

You can see the phone choices here (http://www.credomobile.com/index.cfm?event=beginShopping&handsetCategoryID=0"). They have three free phones, and other models (with more features) at a significant discount. You can get a free phone every two years (with another two-year commitment).

The various calling plans are here (http://www.credomobile.com/index.cfm?event=beginShopping&shoppingPath=shopByPlan).
