Back From Chambanacon

daisy_knotwise, Katie, and I are back from Chambanacon. The most memorable line of the weekend goes to Lisa Golladay who said as we walked down the hall toward our room, "Welcome to Hogwarts!"

The Chambanacon hotel used to be a Jumer's. The decor is baroque in the extreme. I don't think I've ever been in a brocade-lined elevator before. The wallpaper and rugs were busy to say the least.

But the beds were comfortable, the plumbing was fine, and there was plenty of hot water, so that wasn't a problem. The con suite was large and a good place to hang out; the filk room a bit small (but they've promised to adjust that next year).

And we did a lot of singing and had a good time hanging out with catalana, bedlamhouse, ladyat, Juanita, tigertoy, birder2, Art, his fiancee, and many others.

Now we just need to get some more people to show up next year. :)

Hmmm.... and MY biggest complaint about the hotel was squishy beds and no hot water!

Was this the Jumer's in Champaign? Or is this still in Springfield after the great Hotel Exodus of a few years ago?

Nope, this is the former Jumer's in Champaign -- now the Historic Lincoln Hotel.

Truthfully, I thought about going, especially since I was 30 miles away at my parents AND in town Friday for the IHSA football finals. However, I'm a little confused about Relaxicons. It seems to me that unless you know some of the folks attending, you'll have a hard time breaking in.

Well, it certainly doesn't hurt, but there's a bit of light programming and activities in the Con Suite which makes it possible to break in.

Yeah, and I couldn't find the activities on the web site. In truth, I didn't look very hard, so the fault may be mine...
