So I drove down to Frys, arriving at 8 AM, well after the 5 AM opening time. The checkout line snaked to all corners of this really big store. I decided that I would have to be saving a whole lot of money to stand in that line. I wandered around the store a bit, determined that the one stupidly expensive thing that I want wasn't on sale, and drove back home.

Then I went on-line and ordered a Christmas present.

Ho, ho, ho!

Yeah, Target has one of the 37" HDTVs I have been looking for for $150 less than what I can get it for elsewhere, but that's not really enough to get me out today.

Fry's

Certainly it'll be better on a weekday.

Yeah, Fry's is not a place I would go today without a lot of motivation.

Black Friday has much less impact here in northern Mississippi. Rebuilding my file relay machine, I was looking for a cheap 80 GB internal hard drive to replace a very aged 40 GB drive.

The two places in Oxford that would stock such a thing, not really having a computer store closer than the suburbs of Memphis, are Office Depot and Walmart.

Neither had an internal drive smaller than 160 GB. One of the 160 GB drives was at a tempting price, but involved a mail-in rebate, which I've had bad luck with.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll drive to Memphis and pick up an OEM drive from the one remaining parts place I know, have some Pho, and try to find replacement batteries for one of my UPSes. (I can't bring myself to pay shipping on lead acid batteries, somehow.)

So that's where everyone was...

I went over to Calumet Photographic (new location, across the street from the Oakbrook Mall) this morning (about 9:30 or so). I went over on Roosevelt (very light traffic); the parking lot in front of the store was almost empty. Got what I was looking for, then went down 83 (the mall parking lot was less than half-full) to 22nd street. Took that over to Butterfield (the parking lot at Yorktown Mall was also less than half-full, the lot in front of BestBuy was nowhere near full), then home. Everyone must have been at Fry's, trying to cause trouble for you - thanks, I appreciate it!
