Bye, Bye, Mets
Sep. 30th, 2007 11:56 pmHaving learned to hate the Mets when they and the Cardinals were both busy being good in the 1980s and having moved to Chicago where they still haven't forgiven the Mets for taking advantage of the Cubs' 1969 collapse, it was nice to see the Mets perform a historic collapse of their own, blowing a 7 game lead with 17 games to go. Not quite as good as the Phillies (who took advantage of this year's Mets collapse) who blew a 6.5 game lead with 12 games left in 1964, allowing the Cards to advance to and win the World Series, but a quite satisfying collapse nevertheless.
And we are now safe from the danger of another Subway Series. :)

Date: 2007-10-01 06:45 am (UTC)Peak Playoff Probability: 99.988% after games of August 20th
Odds of Collapse at Peak: 8,332-to-1 against
Record at Peak: 66-41, 9.5 games ahead of the Rangers and 12.5 Games ahead of the Mariners in the AL West; 12.0 games ahead of the Yankees for the Wild Card
Record after Peak: 12-26
Still - yay Cubs (who I shall be rooting for) and yay Rockies, who have just won 13-14 to get to a playin against the Padres.

Date: 2007-10-06 07:14 pm (UTC)After graduate school I lived in the Boston area for over 20 years, rooting for the Red Sox except when they played the Mets, and happy as hell when they finally broke the Curse.
For five years I've been living in Philadelphia.
Maybe my next job will be in Chicago?
