Today, [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I assembled a rotating CD cabinet with doors (and no handles) to replace the open shelves that our CDs had been stacked on downstairs and which [livejournal.com profile] dek9's children had demonstrated to be woefully subject to CD destruction.

We also bought some oak 1x4s to mount the baby gate on the stairs. Real soon now.

There's baby proofing and baby proofing and to some extent it depends on your baby. Neither of ours have gone in for wholesale de-shelving of cds or books, though this may have been due to our ability to be present when they were experimenting with the concept and getting to nip it in the bud. Stairgates are vital but in some instances internal baby proofing can be applied rather than external!

Also if you have a good set of stairs (short) for them to practice on then some babies become stair proficient at an earlier age (Amy) than others (Alex). We learnt that from Alexa's daughter in Germany, who is only a week or two older than Amy but already reasonably stair proficient last October, so I encouraged Amy to emulate her and we got to take our stair gates down earlier than anticipated (when Amy was 1 1/2).

Now, to be fair to Tatum, she didn't actually BREAK any CD cases....

Did she?
