I tripped over the melody line for this on Thursday night. When
daisy_knotwise took some time getting Katie to sleep last night (and then thoughtfully headed off to spend some late night time on the computer while I finished things up), the lyrics came to follow.

Haunted
A voice in the wind whispers gently,
Speaking of things I don’t dare,
Repeating the promise you sent me
And swearing you’ll always be there.
You’ll be there.
Everywhere.
And I beg you to grant me one answer
To just how this all came to be.
The wind swirls the leaves like a dancer
And shadows are all I can see.
Shadows of you and of me.
I can see.
You said that you loved me and never would go
And I thought that our love had forever to grow.
But death is a bastard and takes who he will
And with your last breath, you swore you’d love me still.
I hear your voice whisper by moonlight
And when I awake at the dawn.
I reach out to you holding you tight,
But when I close my arms, you are gone.
You are gone.
Then you’re gone.
And if I found I had the power
To tell you to go or to stay,
Stop haunting my dreams for an hour,
I don’t know just what I would say.
I would say
Anyway.
They say that I’m crazy and I might agree
And no one else hears what you’re saying to me
And if I should stand on the edge of a hill
And take one last step, I could be with you still.
A voice in the wind whispers gently,
Speaking of things I don’t dare,
Repeating the promise you sent me
And swearing you’ll always be there.
You’ll be there.
You’ll be there.
Everywhere.

Date: 2007-06-24 04:18 am (UTC)(I'm completely bogged down setting "Monster in My Music" right now. The scansion worked great for a poem, but I haven't been able to make it work yet for a song without major overhaul.)

Date: 2007-06-24 05:48 am (UTC)On "Monster": it looks to me like it might actually set to music as four lines to a verse, which would give you more room to play. It also feels pretty strongly rhythmic and my first thought was a tango, but I'm not sure that's quite the right rhythm.
Not sure if that's particularly helpful, but I figured I'd give it a shot...
