As I go alphabetically through the transactions that need to be updated, I find I'm now in the middle of the "E" section. Whee!

As programming exercises go, this is about as exciting as watching paint dry. :)

Seems like I remember a cartoon in which either Superman or Clark Kent is doing just that - watching paint dry - with a great deal of fascination...
I think Paul drew it.

Ack! Bill, it sounds like you're doing much the same kind of exciting work I'm doing, only I'm doing it in documentation. I have to go through an online help set that somebody else wrote, checking each topic to see whether it was tagged for "content type" (task, reference, concept). At first it was rather soothing to have a rote task to do instead of having to, you know, do actual writing, but since there are hundreds of topics, it's ... tedious. Also frustrating, because It's Not The Way I'd Have Done It. And it requires just enough attention that I can't bring a recorded book to work and, um, multitask.

You have my sympathy.

I'm having just the opposite problem at work. I just inherited a document when someone left our department. Now I have 4 problem tickets against this doc and they are all in sections I know nothing about. Madly racing to learn how this part of our software works so I can make the updates and close the tickets in a timely fashion.

Now, would this be more or less exciting than watching grass grow?
