About two weeks ago, I lowered the mattress in Katie's crib by one notch.

Today, she has learned how to stand up in the crib.

Time to lower the mattress again.

And one fateful day you'll wake up and there she will be, standing next to your bed, smiling into your face as you wake up. And the realization that she's vaulted the side of the crib.

Ikea makes some very nice kid beds.

My mother actually showed me how to climb out of my crib, figuring if I were going to attempt it one day, it would be safer if I knew the "procedure." That was uncharacteristically accommodating of her !

Bill, you might want to put something soft (like several layers of blankets) around the perimeter of the crib, so if Katie goes over the top head-first she won't hurt herself.

I'm just sayin'.

We went through the same thing with Alex. Lowered it one notch and then three weeks later we went all the way down. That was last summer. He's just now trying to get his leg over the top of the crib. We're kind of hoping he makes it until at least his 2nd birthday before we have to give up the crib.
