My prescription plan has been encouraging me to switch to Avandia for several years now. Apparently, that would have been a bad idea.

Of course, it's always possible that Actos -- the drug that I've stubbornly continued to take, despite the fact that I paid more for it -- has the same nasty side effect, but my understanding is that the drugs are substantially different in their metabolic pathway, even though the end results are similar. So maybe not...

As if we needed any proof that doctors, not bean counters, should decide what medication is best for us.

*grin* Reminds me of when I got switched to Vioxx because it was supposed to be so much safer long-term...
