It's bad when you have carefully explained why a given approach to the problem will not produce a satisfactory solution and discover that you are apparently being carefully ignored.

As my darling wife says, "Been there, done that, got therapy". {Is there a canonical smiley for 'rueful grin'?}

Sounds like you're suffering from a case of management

At daoffice, this is a common occurrence. My Boss usually can't see past her cubicle door; I'm the one who will say 'you know, this will come back to bite us' and is shut up in various ways. It's not that they don't appreciate the Big Picture, as such, but that they don't feel like doing anything that isn't immediately expedient in some fashion.

I forget how many years you've been there, but I've been there for 23 years and a week.

I worked one place where people stopped inviting me to meetings so that I wouldn't be around to dampen their enthusiasm over unworkable IT strategies. (Many who know me today would be surprised at the thought that I might infuse a situation with an overdose of reality, but it was a government office, so....)

I learned to perfect the "I told you so" email. They got so sick of those they had to promote me. And the VP who was ignoring me? He is now a big fish in a much, much smaller pond. ;)

Bill, I used to work at a certain software vendor's office as a sales rep - you KNOW the company, intimately as we have reminisced about the ... interesting times we both had in our dealings with them.

Need I say more about having had to deal with unrealistic expectations, systems incompatibilities and a severe lack of documentation?

Just think back... I was there for over three YEARS! I believe that your frustration with them was a bit ... shorter term...

So, when you described this situation, I just sat back and thought to myself: "It sounds like Larry's been there..."
