The good news is that the sleet started here last night and continued until around 5 AM, with the result that we had a moderate amount of ice under five to six inches of snow instead of the sixteen inches of snow places further north got. This was still enough to keep us out of the office today, but I managed to attend the meeting I needed to by phone, so that was good.

My boss is still in a hotel room near the office, but hopes to get out tomorrow.

I dodged this bullet pretty well. There was essentially nothing at my house. Urbana was just on the edge of it; no real problem going to work. But just to the west of Champaign things get ugly. WILL FM and TV are off the air until tomorrow night because the transmitter lost power. 50,000 people in Decatur have no power.

Your boss could easily have gotten out of Chicago by driving, ahead of the storm, to someplace where the snow wasn't scheduled. A one-way rental car and 6.5 hours would have put him at MSP, and we are snow-free.
