Via Instapundit, I find that the new hot trend in SF costuming at conventions is femtroopers, as women seize the opportunity to dress up as Star Wars stormtroopers in, well, customized armor. Sadly, though, I didn't see any of these at Worldcon.

Despite the bare midriff in these costumes, I think I still prefer the runners from Logan's Run.

Of course, the bare midriff has no affect on the armor's utility because as we all know, one hit from a blaster and even a fully armored stormtrooper goes down as one fried shish-ka-clone.

Got your call and will try to follow up this week.

The distraction factor out weighs the loss of mid-drift protection

So of course the question then is... who wins Femtroopers vs. Red Shirts?

In a battle between Femtroopers and Red Shirts, the answer is simple: Kirk wins.

Always.

(You can't do this with Trek, as Trek already does this all the time. We have a bad ass warrior race? Enter the Duras and their leather puppies. Got a relentless cybermenace plowing over the galaxy? Let's give them a Queen so versed in foreplay she can turn on a robot. Trek already has all the midriffs it will ever need.)

Maybe there weren't any at the Worldcon. They seem to populate DragonCon.
